Seahouses & Bamburgh

Seahouses & Bamburgh

Seahouses is considered the gateway to the Northumberland Coast, where you can enjoy sea breezes and seaside views.

This colourful  fishing village has a bustling harbour, an Aladdin’s Cave of shops, and plenty of ways to see the  local wildlife. Seahouses’ fishing past lives on at Swallow Fish, who have been smoking on site since 1843.

Visitors are also welcome at The Fisherman’s Kitchen, where historic fishing memorabilia and curios are displayed alongside the local catch-of-the-day.

As well as its fishing, Seahouses is also known for its history surrounding iconic  Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) figure Grace Darling. She and her father took a rowing boat out to sea from Seahouses and managed to save many people after the Forfarshire fishing boat crashed into rocks. An RNLI lifeboat at Seahouses bears the name Grace Darling in her honour.

After a morning stop in Seahouses we then take you onto Bamburgh- An award winning village for being one of the best coastal destinations in the UK and it’s no surprise.

As the royal capital of the ancient kingdom of Northumbria, spell-binding Bamburgh holds a history worth discovering. All the while, awe-inspiring  Bamburgh Castle will be your backdrop, and you can wander down the main street, past Bamburgh's Cafes and towards the village’s landmark red phone box for an especially staggering view.

The castle isn’t the only chunk of history that Bamburgh Village has to offer. The  RNLI Grace Darling is a museum dedicated to Grace Horsley Darling, who participated in the rescue of nine men from a tragic shipwreck. She became Victorian Britain’s greatest heroine, and the profound event had a huge impact on the RNLI as we know it today.
